Z_brush muss about!


I have to say i am impressed with Z-Brush, been having a play with it..and with the current shader and huge resolution that one go up to. It can certainly make the crappiest mesh look good.
So here is a Cuthulu monster sketch! -woot!
Will finish it off tomorrow night.-and I am going to avoid using symmetry just for the heck of it.

Finally started to work on some dressing elements [namely a decomposing head/skull] for a character that I have been promising myself to finish off.
a CG artist can never have too may skulls their folio of 3D thingos - going to refine the base mesh (once complete) in Mudbox.

Oohhh!!!! this is gonna hurt- above is WIP of where I plan to go with my tat.
Each of the sections are pretty modular I have photoshop file with loads of layers- and all I have to decide is witch section I want to start working with first, and pay somone the money and get it going.

Old Man: Long time no updates

Long time no posts - so above update done in PS - attempting at getting value and lighting planes into a digital painting - After Bumski feedback. Then once I am comfortable in what I am doing in B&W, then I will go back to full colour - Need to go back to Idiot Apathys exercises on Concept art.

David Kassan's Workshop

Had a great time down in Byron/Bangalore doing all of the above.


We spent 5 days ( just before Easter) on the workshop "Investigating the modern portrait." working from a model (David).
Much thanks to Tricia for Organising David to come over from New York to do the workshop. learnt loads and I am gonna definitely keep up with the traditional art... really enjoyed working in oils.

A new Bust
Same base mesh as the roman (FromMaya), end result is just a little too tentative I think and I am not really happy with the hair.


Should do some more characters with wild hair and as I need to break out of the mold more.

Roman Style Bust


A quick mudbox sketch, attempting to get a roman style portrait bust.Will spend some time on the hair- give him the Nero cut.
The base mesh is pretty clean so its relativly easy to knock stuff up... will be reusing the base mesh experimenting with different portraits.

Finaly some 2D























Finally I did some 2D work over the last couple of days.... A couple of sketches ... the girl is still a WIP... I drew her straight up in photoshop, I need to rework her face, as the painted version is butt ugly... will post a beauty shot some time this week. The alien dude is just a reworked marker doodle from my sketchpad... I hope to use the grey scale tonal method on some more higher polished drawings soon.

Hopefully this start to the new year continues and I keep up the productivity.

JD_Holiday Fun




Some Mudbox fun during the Xmass hols- I started with a semi realistic version of JD, but then decided to go back to the concept sketch on the post it and had some fun with him. So I tooned him up and then did a render out from 3DSmax.
